6/22/2023 0 Comments Female agent best![]() ![]() Jane Whorwood was a Royalist agent during the English Civil War. ![]() Kate Vigurs has been investigating the lives of the 39 female members of the Special Operations Executive for her book Mission France: The True History of the Women of SOE. With the role of coordinating resistance overseas, the task of a member of the Special Operations Executive could be extremely influential, but also perilous. She was the only civilian woman in the war to be honoured with the Distinguished Service Cross for “extraordinary heroism.” Hall escaped Nazi-occupied France by trekking over the Pyrenees to Spain on her prosthetic leg, and went on to work for the SOE’s American counterpart, the American Office of Strategic Services. Hall quickly developed a reputation as one of the most dangerous (and most wanted) intelligence agents: she was nicknamed ‘the lady who limped’ by the Germans and the French who never discovered her true identity. She arrived in Vichy France in August 1941, posing as a reporter for the New York Post: as a result, she could gather information and ask questions without arousing too much suspicion.Īs one of the first women of the SOE in France, Hall was something of a pioneer, founding and recruiting a network of spies on the ground, passing information back to the British and helping Allied airmen evade capture. Hall volunteered as an ambulance driver in France in 1940 before joining the SOE (Special Operations Executive) in April 1941. A hunting accident in 1933 led to her leg being amputated, and this (along with her gender) prevented her being employed as a diplomat by the United States. Virginia Hall was an American: highly educated and a talented linguist, she travelled to Europe to study in France, Germany and Austria before finding a job in Warsaw in 1931. ![]() So who was this daughter of a Dutch hat-maker, who was executed for espionage after a secret trial during the darkest days of World War One? Listen Now Virginia Hall More than 70 years after her death, Mata Hari is still a household name throughout the Western world. She was executed by a firing squad in October 1917. There is scant evidence that Mata Hari provided anything other than French society gossip to the Germans and many now consider her to have been used as a scapegoat for French wartime failures. She was quickly arrested and put on trial, accused of causing the deaths of thousands of French soldiers through her actions. In 1917, communications from Berlin were intercepted which revealed Mata Hari was a double-agent who was in fact also spying for the Germans. In particular, they wanted her to seduce Crown Prince Wilhelm, son of the Kaiser, in order to try and gather information. After her Russian lover was shot down, she was told by the Deuxième Bureau (France’s intelligence agency) that she would only be permitted to travel to see him if she agreed to spy for France. Posing as a Javanese princess, she quickly became the mistress of millionaire industrialist Émile Étienne Guimet and as time went on, she effectively became a courtesan, sleeping with many high-profile, powerful men.įollowing the outbreak of the First World War, Mata Hari was allowed to travel freely as a Dutch citizen. ![]() Penniless and alone, she began to work as an exotic dancer: Mata Hari was an overnight success. Born in the Netherlands, she married a Colonial Captain of the Dutch Army and spent time in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia), before fleeing her abusive husband and ending up in Paris. One of, if not the most famous female spy of all time, Mata Hari was an exotic dancer and reportedly a German spy in World War One. With so-called Snoopers listening in on conversations in pubs, spies eavesdropping at bus stops, and government censoring throughout- the Ministry of Information was responsible for gathering information about public morale, and helping to ensure that no important military information fell into the wrong hands. Despite its Orwellian sounding name - the Ministry of Information was not something from a dystopian novel, but instead a government department that played a vital role in WWII. ![]() 6/22/2023 0 Comments Spanish polish translator![]() We would invite you to review (in detail) the services offered by Polish translation agencies in Manchester, and consider how many of the translation services you would be able to provide. The conclusion was that power consumption on cellphone technology at that time was too high to allow viable integration into a notebook and still achieve adequate battery life. The two assigned engineers from Ericsson and IBM studied the idea. In 1997, Adalio Sanchez, then head of IBM ThinkPad product R&D, approached Nils Rydbeck about collaborating on integrating a mobile phone into a ThinkPad notebook. From 1997 Örjan Johansson became the project leader and propelled the technology and standardization. Principal design and development began in 1994 and by 1997 the team had a workable solution. Nils Rydbeck tasked Tord Wingren with specifying and Dutchman Jaap Haartsen and Sven Mattisson with developing. The purpose was to develop wireless headsets, according to two inventions by Johan Ullman, SE 8902098-6, issued and SE 9202239, issued. The development of the "short-link" radio technology, later named Bluetooth, was initiated in 1989 by Nils Rydbeck, CTO at Ericsson Mobile in Lund, Sweden. History Įricsson Bluetooth module PBA 313 01/2S R2A manufactured in week 22, 2001. The Bluetooth logo is a bind rune merging the Younger Futhark runes (ᚼ, Hagall) and (ᛒ, Bjarkan), Harald's initials. It was the epithet of King Harald Bluetooth, who united the disparateĭanish tribes into a single kingdom Kardach chose the name to imply that Bluetooth similarly unites communication protocols. īluetooth is the Anglicised version of the Scandinavian Blåtand/ Blåtann (or in Old Norse blátǫnn). The name caught on fast and before it could be changed, it spread throughout the industry, becoming synonymous with short-range wireless technology. PAN was the front runner, but an exhaustive search discovered it already had tens of thousands of hits throughout the internet.Ī full trademark search on RadioWire couldn't be completed in time for launch, making Bluetooth the only choice. Later, when it came time to select a serious name, Bluetooth was to be replaced with either RadioWire or PAN (Personal Area Networking). Īccording to Bluetooth's official website,īluetooth was only intended as a placeholder until marketing could come up with something really cool. Upon discovering a picture of the runestone of Harald Bluetooth in the book A History of the Vikings by Gwyn Jones, Kardach proposed Bluetooth as the codename for the short-range wireless program which is now called Bluetooth. Bengtsson's The Long Ships, a historical novel about Vikings and the 10th-century Danish king Harald Bluetooth. The name was inspired by a conversation with Sven Mattisson who related Scandinavian history through tales from Frans G. The name "Bluetooth" was proposed in 1997 by Jim Kardach of Intel, one of the founders of the Bluetooth SIG. As of 2021, 4.7 billion Bluetooth integrated circuit chips are shipped annually. A network of patents apply to the technology, which are licensed to individual qualifying devices. A manufacturer must meet Bluetooth SIG standards to market it as a Bluetooth device. The Bluetooth SIG oversees development of the specification, manages the qualification program, and protects the trademarks. The IEEE standardized Bluetooth as IEEE 802.15.1, but no longer maintains the standard. It is mainly used as an alternative to wire connections, to exchange files between nearby portable devices and connect cell phones and music players with wireless headphones.īluetooth is managed by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), which has more than 35,000 member companies in the areas of telecommunication, computing, networking, and consumer electronics. It employs UHF radio waves in the ISM bands, from 2.402 GHz to 2.48 GHz. In the most widely used mode, transmission power is limited to 2.5 milliwatts, giving it a very short range of up to 10 metres (33 ft). It’s common, motivational, and the movie gave it a great spin…but then I couldn’t get the main song of the movie “Remember Me” out of my head. See, I could have made an okay post about this quote. This is important because, in the context of the movie, we may find ourselves blindly following someone who does not actually share the same ideals as us. Their understandings of “Seize the day” shows the audience how the interpretation of something can vary vastly from person to person. Specifically, when different characters interpret the phrase to fit their point of view, most notably Miguel and De la Cruz. Coco presents a different perspective on this common phrase, however. It is a powerful phrase that often motivates characters to try their hardest and live in the moment. It means to enjoy the point in time you are in because you may not get the chance to do so again. But in the late 1970s chimpanzees, which are much more closely related to humans, became the model of choice. That primate is adapted to the kinds of ecological conditions that prehumans may have faced after descending from the trees. Not too long ago the savanna baboon was regarded as the best living model of the human ancestor. When the apes stand or walk upright, they look as if they stepped straight out of an artists impression of early hominids. Bonobo body proportions have been compared with those of the australopithecines, a form of prehuman. Coolidge-the American anatomist who gave the bonobo its eventual taxonomic status-suggested that the animal might be most similar to the primogenitor, because its anatomy is less specialized than is the chimpanzees. It could most closely resemble the common ancestor of all three modern species. If this evolutionary scenario of ecological continuity is true, the bonobo may have undergone less transformation than either humans or chimpanzees. (Given the species slow rate of reproduction, the rapid destruction of its tropical habitat and the political instability of central Africa, there is reason for much concern about its future.) Their present range lies in humid forests south of the Congo River, where perhaps fewer than 10,000 bonobos survive. In contrast, bonobos probably never left the protection of the trees. The subsequent divergence of the chimpanzee and the bonobo lines came much later, perhaps prompted by the chimpanzees need to adapt to relatively open, dry habitats. The split between the human line of ancestry and the line of the chimpanzee and the bonobo is believed to have occurred a mere eight million years ago. THIS FINDING commands attention because the bonobo shares more than 98 percent of our genetic profile, making it as close to a human as, say, a fox is to a dog. So bonobos share at least one very important characteristic with our own species, namely, a partial separation between sex and reproduction. A female gives birth to a single infant at intervals of between five and six years. Despite the frequency of sex, the bonobos rate of reproduction in the wild is about the same as that of the chimpanzee. And sexual interactions occur more often among bonobos than among other primates. Bonobos engage in sex in virtually every partner combination (although such contact among close family members may be suppressed). Whereas in most other species sexual behavior is a fairly distinct category, in the bonobo it is part and parcel of social relations-and not just between males and females. The species is best characterized as female-centered and egalitarian and as one that substitutes sex for aggression. ![]() satyrus-which refers to the myth of apes as lustful satyrs-would have been perfect for the bonobo. The old taxonomic name of the chimpanzee, P. But I believe a different label might have been selected had the discoverers known then what we know now. The bonobo was officially classified as Pan paniscus, or the diminutive Pan. But soon the animal was assigned the status of an entirely distinct species within the same genus as the chimpanzee, Pan. Schwarz declared that he had stumbled on a new subspecies of chimpanzee. A German anato-mist, Ernst Schwarz, was scrutinizing a skull that had been ascribed to a juvenile chimpanzee because of its small size, when he realized that it belonged to an adult. The creature was discovered in 1929 in a Belgian colonial museum, far from its lush African habitat. ![]() The bonobo is one of the last large mammals to be found by science. In the past two decades many strands of knowledge have come together concerning a relatively unknown ape with an unorthodox repertoire of behavior: the bonobo. Male-biased evolutionary scenarios-Man the Hunter, Man the Toolmaker and so on-are being challenged by the discovery that females play a central, perhaps even dominant, role in the social life of one of our nearest relatives. At a juncture in history during which women are seeking equality with men, science arrives with a belated gift to the feminist movement. ![]() 6/21/2023 0 Comments Mas epoxy kit![]() * International Customers: we do not ship this product outside the US.
